Menstrual Health
Menstrual cycles play a major role in the health of women in their reproductive years. In Chinese medicine, all symptoms experienced throughout the duration of a cycle are crucial ways the body is trying to communicate with us. Birth control is often our first line of defense when it comes to addressing uncomfortable symptoms that occur during the cycle. However, if we address these symptoms from their root cause, rather than suppress them with medication, we are helping the body to heal instead of masking symptoms. This can be particularly helpful for newly menstruating women, women who are coming off birth control or switching birth control.
Acupuncture and Chinese medicine can help support:
-
PMS/ PMDD
-
Amenorrhea (not getting a period)
-
Dysmenorrhea (menstrual pain)
-
Abnormal periods
-
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
-
Endometriosis
-
Fibroids
-
Migraines
-
Sleep issues / fatigue
-
Brain fog

Menopausal symptoms can also be addressed, including hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, headaches, and digestive issues.
Fertility Support
Whether you are actively trying to conceive, utilizing assisted reproductive technology (such as IVF or IUI) or planning to conceive in the future, there is a lot that acupuncture and Chinese medicine can do to support you. According to the CDC, “In the United States, among heterosexual women aged 15 to 49 years with no prior births, about 1 in 5 (19%) are unable to get pregnant after one year of trying (infertility).” While this is a staggering statistic, anyone diagnosed with “infertility” may simply just be out of balance in the eyes of Chinese medicine theory. And when we work on correcting that imbalance, it is not uncommon for women to conceive, sometimes much faster than they were anticipating!
Planning ahead: It takes about 90 days for an egg to develop and 72- 90 days for sperm to mature. Therefore, it is best for both partners to start acupuncture treatments 4-5 months before trying to conceive. If you miss that preconception window, acupuncture can still be highly beneficial for achieving your goal of pregnancy.

What to expect: On initial visit, we will go through a thorough health history to establish where you are and what your needs are. Not just for you, but for your future offspring. You will leave your initial visit with a treatment plan outlining recommendations on number and frequency of acupuncture visits, herbs if applicable, dietary recommendations and lifestyle recommendations.
Pregnancy Support
Women often ask if receiving acupuncture is safe while pregnant. The answer is yes! However, let your acupuncturist know if you are pregnant or might be pregnant, as there are some contraindicated points we will not use during specific times throughout the pregnancy. Ideally, we would love to see you throughout the entirety of your pregnancy. We will work preventively to lower any potential risks and set you up for a healthy pregnancy and birthing experience. A healthy mom makes a healthy baby. However, regardless of what stage you are in your pregnancy, you will leave your initial visit with a treatment plan outlining recommendations for frequency of treatments, and lifestyle and dietary tips.

Labor prep: Once the due date starts approaching, we recommend the use of acupressure to help prepare the body for a healthy and efficient labor. When the time comes, we will teach you and your partner or support person research driven acupuncture points to massage within the weeks leading up to labor and before labor. Acupuncture and acupressure during this stage have been shown to be incredibly helpful to ripen the cervix, decrease pain during labor and promote relaxation.
Postpartum: Pregnancy support does not stop after giving birth. Postpartum, also known as the fourth trimester, is a crucial time to rest and nourish the body. Certain conditions acupuncture and Chinese herbs can be helpful with during this time include:
-
Lactation production
-
Mastitis
-
Anxiety, mood swings, and depression
-
Insomnia
-
Recovery from C-Section or tearing
-
Hormonal balance and regulation

While many pregnancy symptoms can be very common and of no concern, they also can be highly uncomfortable. Some symptoms that acupuncture and Chinese medicine can effectively treat include:
-
Morning sickness
-
Acid reflux
-
Constipation
-
Mood swings
-
Changes in sleep
-
Stress and anxiety
-
High blood pressure
-
Gestational diabetes
-
Breech positioning
-
Back, hip, and pelvic pain
-
Shoulder tension
-
Headaches
Sports Medicine
Acupuncture is often sought out for athletes, or anyone active, to help enhance rehab after an injury and return to their sport as quickly and powerfully as possible. Acupuncture is a great tool to help the body rest, recover and rejuvenate- whether from a surgery, a sprain or tear, or intense workouts. Our preference is to help you optimize your performance and prevent injury. Listening to our bodies when minor aches and pains arise can have a massive benefit in the long run. By addressing these subtle imbalances, we can prevent the likelihood of future injury.
While prevention is our goal, accidents happen and so do injuries. Severe and chronic injuries not only take a toll on our bodies, but so often our emotional health as well. It is hard. And we have the tools to support your physical and mental well being. A paper published in “Sports Medicine Today” discusses how acupuncture studies have been shown to significantly decrease pain post injury and decrease the time it takes to return to sport.
Common reasons athletes seek acupuncture include:
-
Optimize performance and injury prevention
-
Injury rehabilitation
-
Decrease pain and inflammation
-
Pre & post surgery care
-
Mental and emotional support associated with injuries
Pain Management
Whether you are suffering from acute or chronic pain, it can be seriously debilitating. Unfortunately, common treatments for pain can end up being quite invasive and come with high consequences, such as the side effects of pain medication or surgery. This is why doctors are more commonly recommending acupuncture to help decrease pain. The number one reason people are referred to acupuncture is for back pain. According to NIH (National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health), there is well documented research on how acupuncture can help improve back and neck pain, osteoarthritis/ knee pain and headaches.

Acupuncture is commonly utilized to help address:
-
Back, neck, shoulder, and knee pain
-
Headaches
-
Hip pain / sciatica
-
Osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis
-
Gout
-
Carpal tunnel
Emotional Health
According to the World Health Organization, the main cause of disability around the world is depression. It is a silent disease; but since the pandemic, it is becoming increasingly more important that we talk about ways to support anyone suffering. In Chinese medicine, there is no differentiation between the physical body and the emotional body. All vital organs in Chinese medicine are associated with an emotion. For example, the kidneys relate to will power and the motivation to put one foot in front of the other. In this situation, our treatment focuses on boosting kidney qi (the internal motive force) and removing internal blockages or stagnation that are getting in the way of qi moving freely. Feeling liberated from this “stuck” feeling so many people experience after an acupuncture treatment is what keeps people struggling with mental and emotional well being coming back for more.
A good acupuncturist wants to get to the root. This is why our intakes are so thorough. Emotional imbalances are commonly linked to gut/ digestive issues or sleep disorders. We strive to see the whole you in all of its amazing potential so that you can too.

Irritability

Difficulty sleeping
-
Poor memory

Difficulty concentrating / lack of focus
-
